Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my sisters garden at Southrepps in Norfolk, UK.

Time

This photo was taken on the 16th March 2016 at 11.01 am after sitting in my car for about 1 to 1.5 hours patiently waiting for a Robin to visit the bird table.

Lighting

This photo was taken using natural daylight as it was a beautiful but cold mid March morning.

Equipment

This was shot using my NIKON D5300 with an Aperture of f/10, ISO: 400 and a Shutter Speed of 1/200 at a Focal Length of 55/1. I used my car as a temporary hide blacking out the windscreen and windows internally with brown paper with just the camera lens showing out of the passenger window. I sat in the passenger seat in the car which was parked in the driveway adjacent to the bird table in the garden.

Inspiration

I like to photograph nature, and British wildlife including our garden birds, capturing the moments and the beauty of everyday things that most people pass by and take for granted. It lets me share how I experience beauty with others. The Robin is my favorite bird to photograph because it has such a beautifully colored red breast and can be quite fearless of humans coming fairly close at times.

Editing

I only had to slightly adjust the exposure in the raw shot to compensate for the UV and CPL filters with a small amount of cropping to achieve this photo before converting it to jpg format.

In my camera bag

I carry in my bag my Nikon D5300 camera, my Nikon AF-S VR DX 18-55mm Lens Aperture F/3.5-5.6, a Vivitar HD Mc AF High Definition 0.43x Wide Angle converter W/Macro lens, a Vivitar HD Mc AF High Definition 2.2x Telephoto converter lens, a 52mm Lens Hood, a universal wireless shutter release, a Vivitar SF-4000 Flash Unit, 3 filters (UV, CPL,FLD), and the all important Lens brush and Lens cleaning cloths..

Feedback

My advice to anyone interested in this type of photography is be prepared to spend countless hours being patient to achieve the shot you want and don't get disheartened if on the day you don't see the the animal/bird you wanted to shoot as there is always another day. Just enjoy being out and about with nature.
