Location
This photo was taken in my bedroom against a wall adjacent to the window. It is basically the place with the most natural light coming through.Time
It was about 16.30 UK time, in March.Lighting
I never use photoshop, so I always tend to utilise as much natural light as possible. The 'yin yang' image has both a white and black side, so I wanted the same effect on the picture. If you look closely, the lights are opposite colours to the skin tones of the subjects in the picture. Brighter, on the male side and darker on the female side.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 7D Mark 2 with a 17-40 L lens. It was set on a timer, as I happened to be in the photo as well. Had to get my focus set up, and then run into the frame as I couldn't find my remote control that day.Inspiration
I remember having the 'yin yang' image in my head all week, and wanting to recreate this through photography. Spoke to my lovely model girlfriend about the idea, and bless her, she was willing to assist me.Editing
I shoot in RAW, and have my camera always in the monochrome setting. Therefore, when I take an image, I always see it in black and white first. Only when I put the photos into Lightroom, do I see the colour JPEGS. As a result, I converted the image to monochrome and increased the brightness ever so slightly. In my camera bag
I always have a 50mm 1.4 in my bag. You can never go wrong with a 50, as it makes you do a bit more thinking when composing shots. I also have a 17-40 L lens and a 40mm 2.8 to go with my Canon 7d Mark 2.Feedback
Try being original, but also willing to be inspired by everything else.
