Behind The Lens
Location
Photo was captured in central Serbia (Europe) on a mountain called Djakovo mountain ( mountainside of larger one, mountain Chemerno ) Place is characterized by mountains full of forest and scattered villages with very few people. These people depend exclusively on their land and their animals.Time
This photo was taken on 09-Jan-14, 2:42:43 PM during my visit to the mountain. Weather conditions were surprisingly good these days and people have the opportunity to carry out their animals from stable to see the light of day and stretched his legs. The winters can be severe and can not be bound with place for a few months. This is a rare chance to get a good weather window over the winter.Lighting
I'm looking to record the lives of people and their animals. Moments that are largely forgotten and disappear from the face of the earth, a culture that not going to be able to last much longer. Human population decreases every year and those who stay are mostly elderly. The horse in the picture serves as the main means of transport. The dog is irreplaceable assistance in keeping the herd in one place.Equipment
I have used Canon EOS 550 D with much older EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM lens from. It all happened at lightning speed. The dog spins in circles all the time so I used widest angle to capture the whole scene.Inspiration
The primary purpose of each photograph is to record a moment in time. So my intent was the same. In the photo you can see the place where I was born and where I live no longer. Each plant and animals have souls for me, soul I always carry with me in this photo.Editing
Yes, I have used later processing. In the original picture, the sky was totally overexposed so I replaced it with another, a little more dynamic. The shadows were raised so that the dog more visible. Horse were also too much exposed so I drop down highlights on them.In my camera bag
My bag is small, on the first place. If you dig in you can find next : Canon EOS 550 D ( inexpensive APSC camera that do enough ) Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM lens ( no more in use ) Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM ( in use and it's great upgrade from previous one. It covers everyday situation but with lack of wide and zoom end that I feel more often ) Two reserve batteries for camera (Canon LP-E8 . One is no-name with around 200 shots in sleeve and other is original Canon battery with around 600-800 shots available ) Yongnuo 568 EX II flash unit ( great !! ) Two transmitters from the same company - YN 622 C ( also great one ) Cleaning cloth Dicapac wp-s10 underwater case ( soft one. Good for casual shooting underwater. Not good for more demanding shot because long sections for the lens, which is always on the way of shooting ) Two pairs by four AA batteries Sanyo Eneloop XXX for flash unit and transmitters. Canon RC-6 remote control That's it :)Feedback
Move, observe and be on the trigger all the time, ready to act. Some moments can never be repeated in history so better to be quick. Other important thing is imagination. First, make your wonder world. Second, make it ready for visitors... because they will come.
