Location
I took this in the mountains of Croatia near Plitvice Lakes in the summer of 2015 while travelling across my girlfriend's homeland.Time
It was around 3am, I waited for the atmospheric illumination from the sun to fade fully, however the sky in the mountains was so clear that you could see the milky way as early as 10pm.Lighting
What made this image is the fact that it had almost no light other than the galaxy and a city around 20 miles towards the direction of milky way, hence the orange tint on the bottom.Equipment
The photo was taken with a nikon D5500 and a sigma 10-20mm on a manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
I was inspired by the beautiful scenery I was in at the time. Just like most of my best photos, this shot was not planned.Editing
To bring out the milky way more I saturated the image, applied the standard s tone curve and dodged the midtones of the milky way.In my camera bag
Nikon D3s, Nikon 80-200mm 2.8d, 50mm f/1.8d, 35mm f/1.8g, Nikon D2Hs, Nikon D5100, sigma 10-20mm and whatever best suits the trip and the location.Feedback
Accessible tourist areas are limited by light from cars and cities, travel or hike a little to find your own dark area with high elevation. Also you'll have to avoid the moon, plan to shoot on new moon, or depending on the location wait late into the night until the moon sets.
