Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from the American side of Niagara Falls. I was asked what I wanted to do for my birthday and I chose to go up to the falls to do photography

Time

This was taken in the early evening during March, it was already dark out, and pretty cold out.

Lighting

With it being almost full dark the only lighting was from man made lights, I knew that I needed my tripod, and a slower shutter speed, and higher ISO but I wanted to be able to get the falls in motion also, so I played with my shutter speed to get the result I wanted.

Equipment

This was taken with my nikon 3200, 18.0-105.0 mm f/3.5-5.6 lens set at 18 mm, F4 appature, 400 ISO, 1/20 shutter speed. (I don't think I had a flash on at the time)

Inspiration

My inspiration for this photo, was in one part waterfalls make good pictures, the second part was the challange, considering the conditions I was in, low light,

Editing

This was orginally a color print, I had a feeling it would stand out being a black and white. In light room I took my color values down to almost nothing then tweeked it from there

In my camera bag

My bag has my nifty 50 lens, 35mm lens, 18/55 lens. Now I am shooting with a Nikon 5300. My flash and a couple of filters.

Feedback

To photograph waterfalls you need to be patient, yes you can get a good picture with a little effort, but you want the WOW pictures so it may take tweaking on apature, shutter speds and ISO(light depending), plus your tripod
