Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture while walking downtown Houston on a sunny day in March 2015. Suddenly I noticed the perfectly pure, geometric texture combination of the row of buildings, in an automatic move I took my camera, framed and shot. Cities have always inspired me, especially when I'm alone.

Time

It must have been around noon.

Lighting

In a highrise downtown, you always are confronted with sharp contrasts of extreme light and extreme darkness (shade). I was inspired by the different hues of blue reflection of the sky in the mostly glass face of the buildings.

Equipment

This was only my small HP 517M "travel" handheld camera, not my usual Nikon D3100 reflex.

Inspiration

As I already said here, the geometric poetry of modern cities, in combination with colorful reflections of sunlight, inspires me to take carefully framed pictures.

Editing

For this picture I did not do any post-processing, as far as I remember. At most adding some light to the shaded areas to diminish the light/dark contrast.

In my camera bag

Nikon D3100 Digital Reflex camera, Nikkor 18-55 mm zoom objective, Nikkor 55-300 mm telezoom. And a light tripod.

Feedback

The photographer's "eye" is in the framing, the light balance, the color balance and the equilibrated composition of the image. All elements have to be in place in a fraction of a second. Otherwise I don't deem it worthwhile to take the picture at all.
