GREAT BLUE HERON. Dark Herons. Aredea Herodias 42-52” (105-130 cm). Adult specimen. A lean gray bird, often miscalled a crane; may stand 4 ft. tall. Its long legs, long neck, daggerlike bill, and, in flight, folded neck indicate a heron. Great size and blue-gray color, white about head (in adults) mark it as this species.
Range S. Canada to Mexico. Winters to n. S. America.
Habitat; Marshes, swamps, shores, tideflats
