Location
This photo was taken at Emerald Lake, British Columbia, Canada. After a long day of of driving through the mountains, this was my last stop before heading back home.Time
I was excited to visit Emerald Lake, as I had heard so many amazing things about the lake. I was only able to spend a few hours at this beautiful spot, although I could have easily spent all day photographing such a picturesque location. I captured this picture at 5pm on October 20th, 2015.Lighting
It was beautiful fall day, clear blue skies without a cloud to be found.Equipment
This was shot handheld with a Nikon D7000. I used a Nikon 10-24mm lens with a shutter speed of 1/250 at 19mm.Inspiration
I was looking for something to catch my eye, and to capture something new and exciting. It was a calm and beautiful fall day, making the glass like lake a perfect mirror.Editing
In this case, I tried to increase the detail and reduce the brightness as the cloudless skies made it challenging to capture this shot.In my camera bag
I carry 3 lenses for my Nikon D7000 : Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 with optional ND filter, Nikon 35mm f/1.8 with optional ND filter, and a Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6. I always carry a microfiber cloth, remote control for shutter release, and a lens pen with brush and rubber ends. I take my tripod everywhere I go, but much prefer to take pictures "on the fly".Feedback
I would suggest to choose a location that catches your eye. A calm day will help further enhance the refection on the water. Clear skies and cloudy skies can each offer beautiful results, but can also be equally challenging. Take your time, be patient, and take lots of pictures! I have found that the best way to learn is to get out there and practice, practice, practice!!!
