This photo was taken at the Sundays river in Colchester, South Africa. The juvenile Half-collared Kingfisher was waiting for the parents to feed it.Time
I work during the week and early on Saturday mornings is my me-time to get aquinted my new camera. This was around 10:00 am.Lighting
At this stage I still shot on Aperture Priority because I was not comfortable enough with manual mode. It was quite dark under the jetty so I had to compensate with my exposure. My Aperture was wide open to blur out the background and only focus on the Kingfisher.Equipment
Nothing fancy, just my newly acquired Fujifilm FinePix S1 and a novice understanding of photography.Inspiration
I was a novice birder who wanted to record my sightings, the reason for the camera. This lead to an addiction for wildlife photography.Editing
Other than cropping, sharpening and blurring the background, not too much. I must also add my editing skills was lacking at this stage.In my camera bag
At this stage it was only me and my Fujifilm FinePix S1. I've now moved on to a Nikon D7500 and a Tamron SP 150-600 G2. Flight shots was a nightmare with my first camera!Feedback
With bird photography you will usually find them at hiding places, especially in an unnatural environment. Kingfishers likes keeping low, perched and during flight. Early morning and late afternoon is best for birds. During midday they tend to hide away from the sun and the light is too harsh.
