Early morningLighting
Early morning in the Sierras is the best time to shoot still water.Equipment
Nikon D7000 Tokina 10-24mm lens, Carbon fiber tripod.Inspiration
Was in the area with some of my students shooting fall colors in the Eastern Sierras and this composition with a strong foreground feature appealed to me.The overall tranquility of the scene was the major draw.Editing
My usual processing includes Lightroom and Nik Perfect Effects as well as Photoshop as needed. In my camera bag
I usually travel very light with my Nikon D7000,18-105 kit lens, Tokina 12-24mm, and Nikon 70-300mm lens. Carbon fiber tripod.Vivitar remote shutter release. Circular polarizer and various ND filters.Feedback
Get up early and explore. When you find a good location, spend some time on composing your image trying to find strong foregrounds to lead the eye through the image while paying close attention to your mechanical skills as well as your artistic vision. Early morning is usually the best time to photograph still waters.Bracket your exposures and or shoot HDR in order to hold details in both highlight and shadow areas. Post processing is very important, but dont overdo it.
