Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was made near Neah Bay near Cape Flattery on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington StateUSA.

Time

Early morning, which is the best time to photograph this area.

Lighting

An overcast and wet morning which is typical for this area which adds to the drama and brings out the details in the landscape as well as the colors.

Equipment

A Nikon D7000 with the kit lens on a lightweight carbon fiber tripod was used in this photograph.

Inspiration

This photograph was made during a photographic excursion to the Olympic peninsula in Washington State USA. Saw the landscape from the road and hiked down to the beach picking my way through the rocky shoreline to get the right composition.

Editing

I post all of my photographs in Lightroom, Photoshop and On-One special effects and sometimes Topaz.

In my camera bag

I am now shooting witha Nikon D7100 and travel light with the nikkor 18-105, Tokina 12-24, and the Nikkor 50-300mm lenses. Use a carbon fiber tripod with an Arca Swiss ballhead and L-bracket plus the usual arsenal of filters.

Feedback

A lot of the best landscape photographs are made in inclement weather.Pay particular attention to the foreground in your landscape photography as the lead in is vitally important to move the eye through the composition.
