Location
The photo was taken in Porthmadog North Wales. The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways stretch for 40 miles through the glorious Snowdonia National Park, allowing you to experience the magnificent scenery in comfort whilst savouring the romance of gleaming steam engines and carriages.Time
The time was mid morning on a crisp winter morning.Lighting
The sun was already high in the sky to the right giving me a great opportunity to get the passengers shadowed on to the platform and the steam from the engine blanketing them has they walked byEquipment
I used a canon 600d with a Samyang 14mm lens, handheld.Inspiration
I had gone to the station determined to walk away with a shot or two and I'm so glad I did, the steam of the train has always mesmerised me and on a cold frosty morning seems to take a life of its own and the smell.......Editing
I did my usual "lazy" post edit through PS express, done in minutes and shared in seconds and not over done.In my camera bag
I like to have a Canon 600d to hand with A Samyang 14mm, sigma macro 105mm and for long exposure and filtering a Canon 10-18mm wide angle, not the most expensive gear in the world but I get great pleasure from it. Most important a iPhone 6, great bit of kit for the more impromptu moments.Feedback
If I could give any advice it would be, concentrate on composition not fancy effects, work hard at mastering the manual settings on your camera, much more rewarding, forget all the rules and be your own photographer:)
