Location
This was in the Badlands of South Dakota in early September, 2005..Time
Probably taken about 2 p.m.Lighting
There were clouds covering the sun, which made lighting much better than full sun at that time of day.Equipment
Fuji FinePix 3800, handheld with 6mm, no flash, ISO100, landscape modeInspiration
I loved that this landscape made me think of the possible moon surface; desolate, barren rocks with visible striations of various mineral layers.Editing
Absolutely! I did some tone-mapping to make this more HDR and increased the resolution, as the camera only shot 72 pixels per inch.In my camera bag
I now carry a Nikon D5300 with a couple of kit lens, Siruis tripod for when I MUST use long exposure. I prefer shooting handheld with natural light.Feedback
Shoot early or late in day, so you don't have to depend on clouds softening your light, but be flexible enough to work with what you have. Look for what others DON'T see or a way to see things differently from everyone else.
