This image was taken in Samos , GreeceTime
This was taken during the afternoon as I was walking the streets of Samos, Greece. On a shaded little walkway I saw this women looking out of her house door. She immediately captured my attention, the serene look on her face. This was in July and the Greek Islands get very busy with tourists. I glanced over and saw her looking out to the street through her doorway. I stopped and showed her my camera indicating that I would like to take her picture. She nodded o.k. I had to be very quick so as not to lose her attention or she left. No time to adjust anything in the camera. Moments happen in street photography , I was ready. I offered to pay her but she refused.Lighting
Natural and available light.Equipment
A Sony a7r, 24-70 lensInspiration
This woman looked so serene yet curious. I could imagine how she has seen her island change as she was observing all the people walking by. She looked at me, her eyes speaking, I thought of all the years that showed through her face. I thought she was so beautiful. I wanted a grandma like that.Editing
I changed the photo to black and white using Nik Silver. The color version is beautiful also.In my camera bag
Normally in my bag is a Nikon D4s, D600, Nikon lens, 14-24 1.2:8, 24-70, 70-200 2.8 , 80-400, I also have the 28 -300 Sony a7r, Sony lens 24 -70, 70-200 Of course I can,t carry this all at once on me. For traveling everything goes in a ThinkTank airport roller bag, I then transfer the camera and lens or two into a back pack that I may want for what it is I,m shooting.Feedback
My advice is to when doing street photography always look ALL around you, up, down, over and then the other side . Don,t be afraid to talk to people , ask if you may take their picture. Have your camera ready to go, if I had to stop and change something in my camera she might have shut the door. The story sometimes outweighs the technical in street photography. And then sometimes it JUST WORKS as it did for me in " YaYa"
