The photo was taken in my home studio in Sweden.Time
It was around 13:00 on a newborn session, it was one of my last shoots, the baby was already awakening, and the dad was holding him when I came out with this idea for a pose.Lighting
In my opinion, natural lighting always makes the best images when comes to kids, for this session I had a big window, without curtains, since the day was cloudy was just the right light to give the gentle touch of shadows and bright that I needed.Equipment
Sony a58, with a 55mm f/1.8, that's it.Inspiration
I have two kids of my own, and when I looked that dad holding his baby in his hands and the way his was looking at him, at that moment all the memories of my two kids and the time I could hold them in my hands came in a flash. I thought how time goes by so fast and we don't even notice. So I came with the idea of register that moment, when they can literally fit in your hand, and how beautiful would be to have that memory preserve for all year to come, and just like the name of the photo says, "love in my hands", that's what I wanted to express with this picture.Editing
I used Lightroom and Photoshop. Photoshop to clean-up the baby skin, and to hide the rest of the dad and complete the black background so that it would be all nice and even. And Lightroom for small adjustments, like light and color, to get to this final results I wanted. In my camera bag
I have my Sony a58, my Tamron 55-200/4-5.6, my Sigma 24-70mm and my Sony 55mm F1.8.Feedback
For newborn photography, safely come first, and this pose has all we need to get a nice, safe and emotional pose. Have dad or mom seat on a sofa or comfortable chair, where he/she can hold the baby on the lap, cover the adult with black fabric, between the chest and the baby to have a base of black for the background on the post editor. Then just find your angle, I sat down on the floor used my knees as a tripod, to be at the same level of the baby. You can try the same, and make few shots, all in slightly different angles, don't be afraid of trying. Edit in photoshop to get a smooth background. And remember that newborn photography it's more then than cute capture poses, it is an emotional time for parents, and a particular time for the new little human in this world, so try to represent those emotions, into your clicks, and you will get the best photos.
