Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in Dunham Massey, Cheshire, England.

Time

Taken on a winter afternoon

Lighting

The day was overcast but the sun shone through a gap in the clouds and was reflected in a large pond. By underexposing the image the trees remained in shadow, although there are colours appearing in the gloom.

Equipment

Canon EOS 400 with 18-55mm EF-S lens

Inspiration

My inspiration was to create an otherworldly, ethereal image without any post-processing

Editing

This image was created entirely in camera using slow, intentional movement of the camera during exposure.

In my camera bag

Today I have a Canon 60D, a 10-18, an 18-55 and 75-300 lenses in my bag.

Feedback

Experiment. Digital photography gives instant results so you can easily adjust framing, exposure choice of focal distance to give different results. Don't be put off when things don't turn out as expected, the more you experiment the more you understand what gives the best results.
