This photo is very special to me. I shot this on a day at Claiborne Park West in Vidor, Texas with my then boyfriend and his daughter. We later got married in an amphitheater right next to this spot. I am self taught, and this was actually the shoot that made me decide to pursue photography.Time
It was in the evening when the light had cooled off a bit, probably around six.Lighting
If I had done this earlier in the day, I believe this would not have been nearly as beautiful. The light in Southeast Texas can be very intense in the middle of the day. With all the bright green and yellow of spring, it just wouldn't have worked.Equipment
Canon PowerShot SX160 ISInspiration
I was actually trying to get a good shot of some turtles on a log for Emma, but those shots did not come out very well. I was really fascinated with the way these trees lined up so I shot a couple shots of that. This was one of my best shots of the whole day.Editing
I turned the contrast up just slightly to get all the detail on the tree in the front. In my camera bag
Canon PowerShot SX130 IS, spare AA batteries, and "Read This If You Want To Take Great Photographs" by Henry Carroll.Feedback
Honestly, I think Emma is my good luck charm. She reminds me that this is suppose to be fun. I think that the more fun you have, the better your shots are going to be. She gets me out of business mode and into art mode. And the thing to remember is to take multiple shots of several different things. That one shot in a million might take twenty tries, but it is worth it.
