Female Bufflehead Duck. These little birds are diving ducks. Generally, about the time you've gotten a decent focus, poof, down they go looking for little crustaceans. This one remained above water long enough to get a good, clear shot. The name is derived from French Buffle for Buffalo, probably referring to the large square head on male buffleheads.
