Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken near the dam of my small village called Penha Garcia located in Idanha-a-Nova (Portugal). The village is about 300 km from Lisbon and close to the border with Spain. This village is located in a GEOPARK and has a beautiful landscapes and many places to visit.

Time

This photo was taken in the final afternoon in August 29, 2015 at 18:14.

Lighting

In this photograph I wished to show action and dynamism, and intended to show a friendship between the rider and the horse. To give nostalgic appearance i used the warmth of sunlight in the evening of this Mediterranean country.

Equipment

I used a NIKON D5100 and Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105 mm lens, f 3.5-5.6, and put a lens hood.

Inspiration

Portugal has a race of very intelligent and versatile horse, this breed is the “Puro Lusitano”, and in my village there are considerable number horses in relation to a small population. This admiration for this Portuguese horse race is evident in Portugal and in the world.

Editing

The picture was taked with an f / 8.0 , ISO 800 and a speed 1/320 seconds . The post-processing was performed on Adobe Ligthroom , and the parameters that changed was the white balance where I chose a light temperature of 7500 K . I choose a minimum Highlights and maximum of Shadows value to homogenize the “brightness”. To give a dimensionality to scenario I increased the value of Clarity . To make a more nostalgic scenario i decreases the Vibrance value for a less intense colors. The sharpness is enhanced by the fact that the picture was made on RAW and was also removed noise due to the value of the ISO.

In my camera bag

In my case I usually take the NIKON D5100 and lens Nikon AF -S DX NIKKOR 18-105 mm F 3.5-5.6 also use one SIGMA 70-300mm , F 4-5.6 DG MACRO
