Awesome black/white with a great deal of vintage mood! Love it!

Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken during my first proper shoot at home, about 6 weeks after purchasing my first DSLR. My wife loves vintage stuff (especially 50's) and it's her dining room!! I met the model on a freelance website and both her and the MUA agreed to shoot for free.

Time

We spent a few hours doing makeup and trying a few different shots and this is one of my favourites!!

Lighting

I used two, cheap off-camera flashes (made by Yongnuo) and used one reflective and one shoot-through umbrella. One was place in front of her and to the left, the other was behind her on the opposite side.

Equipment

This was taken on my very first DSLR: a Canon EOS 700d (Rebel T5i in the states).

Inspiration

I wanted to experiment and try a 'proper' shoot. I had no budget and so used what (and where) was available!!

Editing

I did very little to this: converted it to black and white in Lightroom, then used the black & white colour sliders to alter some balances. I used photoshop to remove a couple of spots from the model's skin and to put some 'liquid' in the cup (I forgot while shooting!!).

In my camera bag

At the moment I'm still using the 700d and 99% of the time I'm using the 50mm f1.8 canon lens, which is brilliant for the money (about £80). I'm hoping to get a 5d mark 3 at some point this year along with a couple of higher-end lenses but am blown away with what can be achieved with cheap kit like the 700d.

Feedback

Just get on with it!!
