Location
I took this image while walking along the streets of Trinida, Cuba.Time
We were strolling along the streets with another couple from Germany taking photos during the noon hour, looking for a place to eat. When we started to cross the street I notice this fire-hydrant and scenery.Lighting
The lightening that day was bright yet had a cooling feeling, as it had just finished pouring. Casting a mysterious atmosphere down this alley way.Equipment
I used my Cannon 60D, no tripod, no flash and my lens was 18mm-55mmInspiration
Oh the scenery down the alley spoke to me right away!!! The first item obviously the smoke and the fire-hydrant half buried, then I saw the bike....I bent down and got excited when I saw the locals. So much activity to capture! I love the idea that the fire-hydrant is not perfect, the bicycle is strong and standing on it's own, while the lady walking is busy carrying on with life! The smoke coming from a welding shop floating into the street gave it a mysterious third world setting...Editing
I brought up the contrast a little and brought down the highlights. I don't usually use post processing that much, just learning. In my camera bag
In my bag I have my Cannon 60D, with my two lens 18mm-55mm and 55mm-250mm. I also have on hand a tripod and a mono-pod.Feedback
When I travel I like to look for unique locations that most travelers won't go to. That is why I have found some really amazing images recently. Don't be afraid to find a "picture story" through your lens. What are your surrounds, where are you? What are the people doing? What has nature put in front of you? Don't be afraid to climb on something to get a better view or get on your stomach or knees and have a different vantage point! I think in this case if I had not gone down to my knees this photo would have been flat. By lowering myself I anchored the bicycle to the fire-hydrant then the foreground is in focus and the background is blurred accentuating the smoke scene. DOF...Depth of Field. Using the puddle to capture more of the street scene in it's reflection. Also duplicating the lines of the sidewalk, with the buildings causing the eyes to follow from the front of the image towards the back.
