Behind The Lens

Location

It was a beautiful day, I was in Portugal near a tiny Village: Desejosa This Photo was taken by a small river,in a very quiet spot.

Time

We were wondering around exploring the landscape and looking for an ideal place for a picnic. The photo was taken after the picnic, lunch time.

Lighting

It was very bright specially around the time this picture was taken but there were lots of treas that provided shade and beautiful reflections; there was also the clear running water from the river under the dragonfly. I didn't use any lightning equipment used a polarize filter. It was taken in the aperture mode, with the smallest aperture the lens would manage trying to focus in the eyes of the dragonfly.

Equipment

This was shot using a Canon 50D with a Canon Zoom lens 55-250mm 1:4-5.6 IS, this Shot: ISO 100 , 232mm F/5.6 (The smallest Aperture possible ) ,1/100s polarize filter. Wished i had my Tripod with me but it was hand held.

Inspiration

I knew I didn't have the right equipment for this kind of shot but I had my camera, the landscape was beautiful the light that crossed through the treas and the reflections of water invited me to just take a few shots regardless. in the end I'm glad i just went for it.

Editing

No

In my camera bag

Not a lot, wished i had more. Canon 50D canon zoom lens EF-S 55-250mm 1:4-5.6 canon 50mm

Feedback

Read about it, understand your camera settings, the manual is a good place to start. Its good to know that the best times to go out and take photographs is at dawn and late afternoon when the light is not to bright, otherwise look for shade. study light, the camera reads it differently, learn about settings, equipment you can use to compensate. learn about composition , a different perspective, the way you frame your shot maters. Meanwhile take pictures, lots of them, "practice makes perfect", and sometimes all you need is to be in right place at the right time and you will end up with something you really love and are proud of. Just go for it, what have you got to lose?
