Behind The Lens

Location

Cherry Valley, Il

Time

Early evening, around 5 or 6.

Lighting

Nothing special about the lighting, just a bright, sunny day.

Equipment

Nikon D80 with the 18-135 lens.

Inspiration

I've always liked pictures of trains and tracks, but I had never seen one from this angle. These tracks aren't very busy, so I had plenty of time to get the shot I wanted.

Editing

Photoscape was used, only changing it to black and white, which I felt it gave it more feel.

In my camera bag

Tripod, monopod, two Nikon cameras, macro, telephoto and low-light lens, speedlite, filters, color gels and extension tubes. I missed out on a once in a lifetime shot of a doe and buck in the early morning because I only had one camera and a zoom lens. Now I have everything for every situation.

Feedback

In the digital age, get as many shots as it takes to get "the one." Although it does come in handy for some things, I am not a big fan of post-processing. I try to get the picture in-camera, because it means more to me knowing it hasn't been completely manipulated on a computer.
