This photo was taken at ballet performance of a small dance school in a tiny theatre which I happen to get invited ,thanks to a friend of mine. I actually went there as a spectator to boost the morale of those talented girls and after i saw what they could do , I don't know why they needed the boost in the first place. Being a photography student I couldn't really leave my camera at home, you probably all know that feeling of emptiness.Time
It must have been like 8 PM ,not like it really matters since it was an indoor shot.Lighting
Lighting was simple. 1 Light from an angle to showcase her back and let the dress fade out in the background.Equipment
Totally basic equipment, a canon 600d, the nifty fifty and thankfully a spot light.Inspiration
Actually, this is part of a small series i made that day. I wanted to emphasize the meaning of each move, more than the move itself. It didn't have to be something fancy or spectacular dance-wise.Mysterious,elegant and strong was my main goals in this shot. Some people tells me for this particular shot that it would be better to see her face but to be honest I love that we don't. I like everyone to give her a face according to their feelings.I try not be too straight- forward when i can.Editing
Nothing special, I just made some contrast adjustments and boost the vibrance a little bit, to pop the subject a little bit more.In my camera bag
Just an entry level dslr kit and the 50mm 1.8 . And of course tapes. I actually overcame lots of problems with things you can't imagine. Paper tape is one of those things in particular.Feedback
Let's be honest, having a 30000 gear with you in a shoot is always a benefit. But, it is not what makes the shot. Challenge yourselves always. Try and shoot under difficult conditions with the simplest of gear and you might be amazed at the results. Communication is also key. Talk to your models, make them feel comfortable. And try to have as much time you can beforehand to accomplished that. Get out, shoot, fail, learn.
