Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo at Arbroath Abbey in Arbroath, Scotland. I am a self-taught photographer, still very new to the photography side of things, but enjoy experimenting and playing with different angles and effects.Time
It was just after noon on a very sunny and beautiful Sunday in Scotland. We were on our way back to Aberdeen and came across a ruin standing tall behind some trees and we went to go have a look at it. There was a lot more to the ruin than just a few pillars and remains that had stood tall amongst the trees.Lighting
To be honest, it was all natural light that was coming through the window in one of the halls that we explored.Equipment
I was armed with a Nikon D7100.Inspiration
I walked into the hall and saw the light coming through the window and it was captivating for some weird reason. Like a warmth and it was the source of natural light that was providing the dark hall with light. I took a photo in colour and then thought: "hey, this might look quite cool in monochrome." and this was the result. I did not expect the response I have received so far towards this photo but its very encouraging. I do love black and white photos as it adds a certain ambience. What can be felt in colour when taking a photo is different to what can be felt in that same photo when in black and white.Editing
This photo, besides being black and white, is all natural. No edits. I do like edited photos however, I need to explore that side of things but I do like unedited photos especially when you have captured a beautiful picture. In my camera bag
I always have the camera, Nikon D7100, with me when we travel. I have a strap so that the camera is around my neck at all times to make it easily accessible because you never know what you might come across. In the bag is extra batteries (just in case) and sense cleaner. There is also a lens buffer and a tiny brush to flick a way any dust or unwanted particles which does not scratch the lens.Feedback
Honestly, this was a capture that I felt inspired to take. I play around with the settings and try different angles. Don't be afraid to move around instead of relying on the zoom in and out function or auto focus, and don't be afraid to experiment.
