Location
I took this photo at Unity Village in Missouri.Time
I took this photo in the morning so the fly was not very active, that allowed me to take multiple photos for focus stacking.Lighting
I used natural light because I went to that location to take landscape photos and did not expect to take macro shots.Equipment
I used a Nikon D750 and a Nikon 105mm macro lens with a Manfroto tripod.Inspiration
I just happened to see the fly sitting there and since I was still cold that morning it wasn’t very active. So I took the chance to practice multiple images knowing I would focus stack them later.Editing
I did all of the post processing in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I usually have my D750 with a Nikon 80-400mm, Nikon D5200 with a 105mm macro lens, and a Sony RX100IV. Sometime I also take a tripod.Feedback
When taking macro shot of insects the best time is in the morning or late evening when they are not as active. A tripod is a must have if you are planning on focus stacking images. Most of all bring large amount of patience because nature is never on your schedule.
