Location
This was taken at a local park area in Savannah, GA. I was on lunch break and walking along the lake path when I found the heron sitting on a dock. I only had my point-n-shoot with me. I took some long distance shots of him and decided to see how close he would let me approach. I walked very slowly towards him. I was about 5 feet away when I took this photo. He never once got nervous about me being so close. I backed away slowly and thanked him for allowing me to photo him. LOL!Time
This was taken around 12:30 pm on a partially cloudy day.Lighting
The sun was very bright that day, but with some large clouds floating about I just waited till the sun was covered to make this shot.Equipment
I used a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX20V. Freehand without flash.Inspiration
I love photographing nature and this was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.Editing
I did a minor amount of post processing in Photoshop. I made adjustments for saturation and color. In my camera bag
I have a Sony A99 as my main camera. I carry several lenses with it. Sigma 18-35mm, Sony 50mm, Sigma 400mm and a Sigma 50-500mm.Feedback
Anyone wishing to capture a similar shot should either invest in a good quality telephoto lens or frequent parks that have a lot of wildlife. The animals get use to humans being near them and wont spook so easily when you try to get close.
