Location
I took this photo one Sunday morning in December in my backyard. We had a small snow storm the night before. My dog, Daisy, loves running around in the snow, so I took her out to have a little fun in the few inches of powder. I took my camera out when I went to play with her in the hopes of snapping a picture or 2 if she would stay still for long enough! If I were to be completely honest, I didn't expect to get a picture like this. I lucked out, and happened to press the button at the perfect second.Time
It was mid-morning, and slightly cloudy. Because of the snow reflecting the light and a very energetic, fast dog, I had my shutter speed up high and my aperture value up high.Lighting
It was slightly overcast, but with the snow reflecting so much light, it set up the perfect conditions.Equipment
I used a Nikon D3300. My lens was a Nikon 70-180 mm.Inspiration
My dog inspired me to take this. She never fails to make me smile with her goofy antics in the snow, and I hoped to capture that in a picture.Editing
I did a little post-processing; I turned the contrast up a bit, mostly because I love high-contrast photos, and turned the sharpness up so you could see the details of her hair and the snow more clearly. In my camera bag
It depends on where I'm going. I'm a younger photographer and still inexperienced. I don't have opportunities to go out with a lot of equipment, so I usually just bring my camera body, a Nikon D3300, and one or two of my lenses. For sightseeing, I'll bring wider lenses, such as my basic 18-55mm lens and my 70-180mm lens. If I'm searching for details elsewhere, which is uncommon, I'll bring my 70-300mm macro lens. The farthest my macro lens has gone is my backyard!Feedback
This photo was a shot in the dark, and I'm lucky to have captured it. I happened to press the button at the right time in the right circumstances. You can't stage pictures like these, especially of something like an energetic dog. I always take hundreds of pictures in the hopes of capturing a great moment. It can be frustrating at times, but in the end, you get those few pictures that make it worth it.
