Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Century City mall in Los Angeles. They have this fantastic parking garage, plastered with chameleon like fish scales all along the facade in wave like formations

Time

I took this photo right around 5pm one weekend. I remember thinking about how nice it would be to have a beautiful sunset above it if i was able to stick around for a little longer, but it seemed to work out really well as the light from the still relatively high setting sun hit the scales at a more direct angle and made them shine more than had it been closer to setting.

Lighting

Strictly lit by the sun.

Equipment

Sony A7ii + Sony Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 35mm F2.8 ZA

Inspiration

I took this photo as part of a personal project that i've been working on which highlights the outstanding design of buildings tasked with even the most mundane of functions. The Parking Garage

Editing

I did my typical amount of processing with the basic sliders + a little more focus on hue and saturation sliders with a bit of heavier vignetting to get the sky a little more blue in the corner as well as make the tiles in the lower right corner pop a bit more

In my camera bag

I always have my Sony A7ii and a smaller wide angle lens attached to it. Typically its the Loxia 2.8/21 or Batis 2/25, but this was taken back when i only had one lens, which was the Sony Zeiss FE 35mm f/2.8. Its always nice to have a few extra pieces along with me like lens and body caps, lens cleaner, and a ND or CPL Filter, but as long as i have my camera and a nice wide angle lens, I'm a happy shooter.

Feedback

Take more photos. Some people say that you need to know when not to take a photo, but i say you need to know when not to process/show/post a photo instead. looking at and shooting a subject at all angles and directions helps inspire my creativity and usually helps me to make the images i'm most proud of.
