It is so sad to see the churches in Muslim countries with the saints defaced like this. I understand the idolatry thing, but it is nevertheless a loss to the world when works of art are destroyed in the name of religion. I know that Christians are just as guilty in their destruction of native religions over the years also, and if it isn't religion it is greed or Nationalism that robs mankind of its heritage. My local old churches in Kayakoy, Fethiye are similarly defaced and mostly over-painted too. Thank you for sharing these beautiful vibrant images of Cappadocia church interiors.
