this wonderful shot was taken during an acoustic geological survey in the middle of the Lake Prespa (Macedonia), the "dark eye" in the right is the famous Snake Island, the only Island in Macedonia! the lake is actually drying up due to over catching water for agriculture, please keep an eye on that, its very important for Balkan wetlands conservation!!

Location
The picture was taken in the middle of Lake Prespa waters (Republic of Macedonia) during a scientific survey aimed to understand and better protect the ecosystems of Lake Prespa and Ohrid.Time
The picture was taken during a clear september morning, after 2 hours sailing to reach the survey area.Lighting
We moved the motorboat away from direct sunlight so I could take a picture looking south to Greece. The water was so calm and the light so soft that the surface acted like a perfect mirror for the Gali?ica mountains on the background; a nice 50%-50% with pastel colours indeed.Equipment
It was shot with a Nikon Coolpix P520 camera, no filters nor other equipment.Inspiration
The nice fact of being a researcher in environmental field is that you may stumble in places almost unknown for most of the people, the field work isn't the only job. Documentation has a relevant part in it, so having always a camera with you is a great opportunity to capture unexpected moments as in this case. The sight was so perfect that I had to take a shot to fix it forever!Editing
The Nikon Coolpix 520 has a minor issue taking very sharp pictures but with very low color detail, I managed only to calibrate the white again and cropped a bit leveling the horizon to restore the natural landscape I had in front of my eyes.In my camera bag
As always when I move into wilderness, I take with me my camera and a tripod and all the necessary to face adverse climatic conditions. I like to go lightweight, so no unnecessary stuff and lot of willingness to go where there is no signed paths to get lost in yourself and nature in complete safety.Feedback
This picture was taken in very favorable (and rare) climatic conditions, to gain the best reflective effect you should avoid direct sunlight and essentially a nice subject pointing your camera. Even the color of the water has its part, indeed a really pure and transparent surface avoids reflections or messes with sun glares; the Prespa Lake has really calm and dark waters (despite its shallow height) so the reflection effect is maximized. In this case we were really lucky to have all this prerequisites casually matching in front of our boat!
