This was actually taken in my office. I was shooting something else and turned around and saw Kilo watching me. I quickly grabbed my light and moved it and took this shot.Time
Was in the afternoon but it was indoors anyway.Lighting
I used one small softbox prett close to him. He was close enough to another white wall to get a little bit of bounce back into the shadow side of him.Equipment
This was shot with Fuji gear. I believe i was using the 56 f1.2 lens that day.Inspiration
Again it just kind of happened by chance. The opportunity presented itself so I grabbed it. I think a lot of great shots happen this way. You may be intending on one thing and then you see something you weren’t expecting and that ends up being your best shot of the day.Editing
I converted this to Black and white in Lightroom. I added some drama to the vignette effect that using the light so close caused. There was no other touch up done.In my camera bag
That is an interesting question for me because i just recently changed gear. I started shooting a lot of events and I found that Nikon was the best match for me. So at the time of this image i used to own a TON of prime lenses. Just about every focal length that Fuji made. But now typically carry 3 zoom lenses a superwide, medium and a 70-200. I still use an 85mm 1.8 on my Nikon Mirrorless full frame system when it is practical but I changed gears... on my gear (no pun intended :). I miss some of those fuji primes sometimes but i am happy with the system i have now. It makes things just a little easier in certain situations that i was running into often.Feedback
Just be willing to change your plan if you have a specific shoot in mind and always be looking. I know most photographers do that already but it is something everyone can improve on. Looking for “the shot” in the most unexpected places or finding beauty in things that others may not notice until you use your camera to bring it to the forefront of people’s attention. I think that is why people love pictures so much - because it helps direct their imagination and vision toward things that normally go overlooked.
