Behind The Lens

Location

this image was taken at the Kansas City zoo while showing my granddaughter the many ways animals and birds camouflage themselves

Time

it was early morning when we entered this free flight area and the keeper was there feeding some of the birds

Lighting

I prefer to use ambient light, I feel that I was really lucky with this shot. Everything was right.

Equipment

I shoot mostly with a Nikon D300, that day I had my 70-300 lens

Inspiration

The innocence of the bird that was carefully snuggled in to the tree reminded me of how we need to be aware of how we are all connected to other living beings

Editing

I do most of my processing in camera because I believe that you can over process and take away the true meaning of the image

In my camera bag

I carry 2-3 lens, 18-200, 50 and 24-70mm I always have my polarizer filter and plastic in case of unexpected rain. Extra batteries for my sb800 flash

Feedback

get to know your camera, if you always shoot images in raw you will not be able to push your creativity because you will not know what your camera can do. Wait for the shot when you are photographing wild life, or any other subject.
