Behind The Lens

Location

This actually was a spontaneous photo. I stayed at Plymoth MA for Thanksgiving night and right before going to dinner decided to stop by a lighthouse for some sunset photos. I spend about an hour there taking pictures and looking for a perfect conposition. On my way back to the car when the sun almost sat down I saw this stack of stones and thought that it would be a nice foreground element. I just couldn't help myself not to take this picture.

Time

I took this picture right after the sun sat down, around 7.30PM.

Lighting

The sunset provided just the right lightning for the picture. The light was comming from the left about 90 degrees, so it lighted both the stones in front of me and the sky in the back. And if course polarizing filter (that I always use for landscapes) helped me to darken the sky and to bring up some colors to it.

Equipment

I used my old Nikon D 5000 with a 18-55 kit lens and instead of a tripod I just sat my camera on a piece of rock.

Inspiration

This photo was not planned, it was more like a see and shoot situation. The scenery around was so gorgeous that it almost required to be captured.

Editing

The only post processing I made for this picture is color enhancement using curves adjustment in Photoshop and if course some sharpening filters.

In my camera bag

I am mostly interested in landscape and some wildlife photography, so I alway have my 18-200 Tamron lens for wildlife and a 11-16 Tokina lens. I just love the later one for picture quality and wide angle coverage it privides only crop sensor camera. I also always have a pack of filters (circular polarizer and neutral density set).

Feedback

The only advice I have is to examine every subject from all angles and look for an interested foreground. But the main thing is to travel more and try to get off common touristy spots.
