Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on a bike ride on the shores of Loch Creran in Argyll, Western Scotland. I couldn't resist stopping and snapping this photo at such a a beautiful spot

Time

The photo was taken early afternoon on a mid-summer's day - but I remember the location being astoundingly quiet for such a great day

Lighting

I wanted to capture the magic of this location by capturing the reflection of the mountains in the water, and the way the bright colours of the seaweed contrast it

Equipment

This was shot with a simple digital camera - a Nikon Coolpix S2800

Inspiration

I wanted to capture a classic Scottish landscape in all its glory, and I think the calmness of the water and the contrasting colours reflecting in the water on such a nice summer's day here represent the splendour of Scottish Highlands

Editing

Other than slight contrast changes, this photo is virtually unedited, as I wanted it to be as natural as possible.

In my camera bag

I usually only carry my camera and tripod, with little or no other equipment

Feedback

I think it's very important to say that a great photo can be taken with virtually any camera - although you have more options and better clarity with more expensive cameras, if, like me, they are somewhat out of budget for you, don't be afraid to experiment with digital / bridge cameras. Which brings me to another point - always bring your camera with you! I didn't go out with the intention of taking this shot, but happened to pass by this beautiful spot and thankfully had a camera to snap it. Finally, I would say (especially for landscapes) try taking the same shot from several different angles; I think this shot was taken from lying on my belly to fit as much of the seaweed in the foreground as possible!
