Location
The photo was taken in Namibia near the city Luderitz. That is southern cost of the country close to South African Republick.Time
Arround 09.00 morning time. It so happend that I had to drive off the town at this time. There was a long drive ahead. Even perfect brekfast made of fresh fish remained untouched at the hotel I rushed from. But the vew of dunes covering railway was a good compensation for lost. Had I left an hour later there would have been sand wind blows that usually start after air warms up a bit.Lighting
Unfortunately, I was not in position to play with lighting. The place, the time, the spot were fixed to my dayly schedule. The only affordable luxury in this situation was to choose between uperture, ISO and shutter speed.Equipment
The camera I was having with me - Sony sybershot 707. No other equipment. Actually film cameras in the areas were not withstanding thick sands hanging every where. So when driving to the Luderitz I picked up with me this camera, the only available at my desposal at that time.Inspiration
I did not plan to capture some thing like that. But on drive I was taken away with the view. On the road I noticed drifting sand and unvolanterely looked in the direction it was coming from. Over there it was it. The dunes completely blocking railway.Editing
I slighlty changed the colors with programs available at the time digital cameras appearing. The program was included in tto the box.In my camera bag
Now I do have Canon EOS 5D mark 2, speedlite flash Canon 380, a set of filters, tripod, lencies: Canon 100-400 and Canon 24-105, and Canon shift/tilt 25 mm.Feedback
One always has to be ready for unique chance to cupture such photo. Better if you are a passenger or footing. In this case you have more chances to observe arround. Extremely important while hunting for dunes in Sceleton cost are measures to protect cameras and lensies fron sand dust. Espetually moving or rotating parts. Better if you will put yor camera into a box or bag that are used for underwater photography. No umbrellas or tents will help you. In half an hour of working without good protection you are to take your equipment to repairs.
