Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on location, at my clients home. She was holding her new two week old and we chose to show love of the little ones feet. Who does not love babies hands and feet?

Time

This was in her home so in the afternoon. This day I remember because the little one just had her first set of shots, so as I sure you can guess she was not to thrilled and was quite fussy.

Lighting

The lighting on this image was just what was available. The light coming through the window was perfect.

Equipment

At this shoot I used my trusty Nikon D300 with a Nikko 35-70mm 2.8f macro lense. I hand held my camera as I was sitting on the ground capturing those little toes.

Inspiration

When this photo was taken I was still attending college. I was looking for my passion in photography. What do I enjoy capturing. So I was taking pics of everything. Families, maternity, babies, weddings and so on. I don't have many friend at my age who are having babies so I could use them as a model. But my hair dresser was having a baby girl and we did a little deal. It was a ton of fun doing this shoot, capturing life is such a treasure. I have found that I am not much of a wedding photography and I am more of a music, events and lifestyle photog. This shoot with baby Mike was uplifting and gave me a sense of direction with my career.

Editing

Most of my post processing is minimal. My feelings on this is to capture the true moment in itd most natural way. If there is to much post processing it takes away from that moment. It does not show the true reflection of the person or thing your capturing. I adjust the basics, such as exposure curve, b&w and contrast.

In my camera bag

What I keep ingredients may bag varies from the different shoots I do. My all time companion is my Nikon D300 and a good all range lens like my 35-70mm 2.8f macro Nikko Nikkor lens. I then will have my 50mm and last my 70-200mm 2.8f lens. If I am shootingredients a concert, I have my two D300 and an added 10.5mm 2.8f fisheye.

Feedback

For anyone wanting to photograph lifestyle type photography, I would say... GO WITH THE FLOW! Working with babies can take lots of patients. Go with the flow means, take pics even though they are grumpy, it might turn out to be one of the best shots. Keep shooting! I am no expert, but I have captured some pretty great memories even when the shoot got difficult. This little one has to be one of my most favorite little models, attitude and all.
