Location
This photo was taken from my home at Canoe Bay in the Marlborough Sounds of New Zealand.Time
Daylight saving means the light is great in the evening. The rain had stopped the clouds cleared away and the last sunbeams lit the mountain perfectly. The tide went out, the dinghy posed nicely and I was ready !Lighting
As I mentioned above the light was in the golden minutes as the sun did it's last gasp shine for the day.Equipment
The camera was a Nikon D70 with an 18 -200mm lens. No flash, no tripod. Iso 400, lens at 25mm, 1/80@ f 3.8Inspiration
I am always looking for a great shot of this view so when the weather cleared a little I went down the beach ready to score. The light was most co-operative and the water is crystal clear so I got the shot I wanted.Editing
Having been brought up with film I really don't have any proficiency in anything but basic post processing, preferring to get the image I want in camera. I use my Mac book with i-photo for everything and generally get satisfactory if not optimal results. In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D750 body, Lenses: 50mm f1.4, 70-300mm f4.5-5.6, 16-35mm f4, all Nikkor. I have a variable ND filter which I sometimes use to slow the exposure time down to smooth the water a bit. All my lenses have UV filters permanently attached. I also have a camera with attached lens case which I use to carry minimal equipment when I know what I'll need . I never carry more than I need to.Feedback
Patience is the key. Knowing the lay of the land and where the light is coming from helps but of course that changes with the seasons. I use a very heavy Manfrotto tripod with a ball head when I am waiting for a shot. It's a pain to carry but it doesn't move once set up.
