Location
This photo was taken in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine during a cold december winter evening.Time
I took this photo along with several others during sunset. I remember arriving at the scene around 2pm and spending at least 2 or 3 hours shooting as the sky and the light kept chaning constantly.Lighting
This is one of the main bridges in Kiev and I was crossing it several times with my car always imaging how awesome it would look as a long exposure. I wanted to make the water real soft and the clouds streaky to make the image calm but also with some sort of movement in it.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7100, a standard tripod and a Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND-16 filter to get a long exposure time.Inspiration
I always liked fineart black&white photography in the stlye of Joel Tjintjelaar and thought about trying something similar without just copy/pasting his style.Editing
I always shoot RAW so I did some basic adjustments in Adobe Camera Raw before processing the image to b&w in Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.In my camera bag
I try not to carry too much with me. So its usually just my Nikon D7100 along with the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8, my tripod and my ND-10 from Lee filters and my ND-16 from Formatt Hitech.Feedback
For these kind of photos its important to not have a clear or fully overcast sky. A mix of 60% clouds and 40% sky usually works very well. There also has to be some kind of windy conditions otherwise you wont really get streaky clouds; even with an exposure of 5-8mins. And its really helpful to use a quick sheet or an App to calculate the correct exposure time with the ND filter on.
