Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Okinawa, Japan at one of the local Sunflower Fields.

Time

This photo was taken late morning, early afternoon.

Lighting

All lighting in the photo is from nature. With sunflowers, they naturally follow the sunlight, so you mostly never have to used unnatural light. With it being late morning and early afternoon, the sun wasn't quite fully above us. I moved around the flower as the bee flew around.

Equipment

I try to use the least amount of equipment as possible. I hate carrying a large bag full of things I "might" use. My go to items are my camera and the lense.

Inspiration

Okinawa is very well known for it's flower fields. Almost every month, there is a field somewhere on the island, blooming another picture perfect flower. We were fortunate to get these sunflowers in their condition as there had been a late freeze on the island and the sunflower field was not as plentiful as it had been in years past. Those that did grow, were not as "magnificent" as many would have liked. Many were wilting and droopy. The bees were still buzzing around. It was my hope, as our time on Okinawa was coming to an end, to get a photo from each flower field.

Editing

There was zero post-processing on this photo. What you see is SOC. Something I try to accomplish with all of my photos. I know it's hard, but it's very rewarding.

In my camera bag

I don't like to hike around with a lot of items in my bag. I usually carry my Canon and the lense I need for that trip. Sometimes it's the stock lense, sometimes its my zoom lense. I always carry extra SD cards and batteries. Lense cloth and brush is also a must. If we are hiking, then my bag has snacks, water (in the bladder), hair ties, sun screen and a first aide kit. :)

Feedback

Keep it simple. I notice when I try to do something I saw on social media, I don't end up with what I want and I put myself down. Of course, you want to try and improve your skill set, but you can still keep that drive to improve simple.
