What a great shot! I love this place. This is where I met my husband. Crystal Colorado with Treasure mountain in the back ground?

Location
During the Summer of 2015, My wife and I were traveling throughout Colorado. I had wanted to photograph locations that were of some sort of historical value. This location is referred to by many names such as "Crystal Mill", "Sheep Mountain Power House", "Lost Horse Mill." The location is located on country road 103 outside of Marble, Colorado.Time
This image was taken right before noon, on July 08, 2015.Lighting
There were scattered clouds, with some very heavy rain clouds coming over the mountains. I wanted to catch the sunlight as it was breaking through the clouds and lighting up the building and the river near the center of the image area. The light at the bottom of the elevator was a bonus! Most photographers and picture takers will normally that their image from a location farther to the left of this image. I wanted this location because it allowed me so use the path of the river to direct the eye around the building then up the elevator to the building. This angle also removed a somewhat empty background to the right of the building, thus projecting a rugged impenetrable appearing landscape that surrounds the building and river, demonstrating the immense struggle required by the miners in the 1880'sEquipment
I used a Nikon D810, 50mm 1.8 Lens, Hoya CPL filter, and Manfrotto 190 light-weight tripod.Inspiration
As a lover of 19th century western American history. I am always looking for any image that portrays the history of the area in which we are traveling. This image provides a unique peek into that period. The image is not of a mill, but is one of an air compressor station that provided air used to operate the mining tools in the local silver mines.Editing
Post was completed through Lightroom and Photoshop. Lightroom was used to control workflow, contrast, shadows, lens correction. Photoshop was used to clean the image, composition, sharpen, logo.In my camera bag
Normally, when exploring locations, I will carry Nikon D810, 24-120mm 3.5 lens, a few filters, light meter, batteries, Manfrotto tripod. Once I choose the location, I will determine the equipment needed to produce the finished image.Feedback
As I mentioned earlier, I love the actual history behind a location, therefore, I will spend a lot of time researching a location's history. I will then use that history to develop the desired composition of the image. By knowing the background of the proposed image, i am able to study the location and make sure that the finished image will project the actual history of that location. By using one of several software tools, I am able to predict the right time and day to take the image. i.e. location of Sun, Moon, at any given time. Best advise I would give anyone, is exercise patience! Take your time and double check all the setting and ingredients required to produce the image you want.
