Location
This picture was taken on Portal creek in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada in April of 2015Time
I really can`t remember the exact time but I know it was between 10am and noon. The sun was fairly high in the sky, enough for the sunlight to be able to reach the floor of the valley where the creek in located.Lighting
The light was coming in at an angle that caught the ice and gave it a real nice glow.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D7000 and the wonderful 17-55mm F2.8 lens.Inspiration
I was just starting to get into photography at that time and had seen wonderful photographs of water falls withe the silky water effect. I did some research into how to shoot these types of photos so I purchased a CP filter and a 3 stop ND and set off in search of waterfalls to shoot. I came by Portal creek, parked on the side of the highway, put on my rubber boots, slid down the bank of the bridge to the water then climbed up a ways until I found this spot where the photo was taken. Actually there was a log across the creek, and this was taken under the log.Editing
This photo was processed in PS 5 with extensive use of luminosity masks and dodging and burning until I came out with the look that was most pleasing to me. I especially love the way the ice was rendered. It is like it`s own little fantasy world. In my camera bag
Nowadays I normally carry really light. I have a Fuji X-H1 in the bag with the trusty 18-55 kit lens usually along with a 50 mm vintage prime and a 24mm Canon EF-s adapted for the Fuji. Depending on the day, I will also carry my vint Pentax 135mm F3.5 foe longer shots of portraits. I also usually carry a Nissin flash and controller. I have a pretty good selection of vintage lenses and adapters and enjoy using these lenses. Whichever on finds it`s way into my bag depends on the day. All in all, I like to travel light.Feedback
