Location
This photo was taken in my back yard, early in the morning in south central Wisconsin. It was about the shortest photography trip I have ever taken.Time
I woke up one frosty morning and as I went to make some coffee, I noticed how ice crystals had formed on everything. I quickly went outside with my camera because I knew with the sun out and temps rising it wouldn't last.Lighting
I used natural lighting, the frosty crystals had the sun shining on them.Equipment
This photo was taken with no flash, tripod, or filters. It was handheld with a stock lens that came with my nikon D3200.Inspiration
I love ice crystals. Although no two are the same, they are all equally beautiful.Editing
I did only minimal post processing as i try to keep my photos as close to the original as possible. I did some cropping and minimal brightness adjustment to help bring out smaller details. In my camera bag
When I go anywhere with my camera, I always have a wide angle lens as well as a stonger zoom lens, a small set of filters for each, a lens cleaning kit and tripod-thats it. I find that the more time you spend changing around equipment when taking nature shots, the more quality shots you miss. Its not like you can tell mother nature to hold still.Feedback
If there was any advise I could give on taking a shot like this one, I would say use a tripod and take several photos of the same shot, especially if the wind is blowing. Handheld macro can blur fine details with the slightest movement.
