While visiting the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter, Florida a few years ago, I found this very sad and old looking Pelican cozied up against a wooden box. There was a chain that went from the box to a post on the fence. The chain in the image has nothing to do with the 'Pelican' - it was not chained. The animals and birds there are all pretty well 'rescues'. They are taken care of if hurt and kept till they are well, or kept there and taken care of where if let out into the wild, they would probably not survive because of injuries they had already experienced before being taken in.
