Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo above the dam for Lake Jackson at Grand Teton National Park.

Time

We set an alarm clock to awake us in plenty time to set up for a sunrise photo shoot. I was hoping for a completely calm morning for a reflection photo. I was slightly disappointed when a light breeze broke out as we set up.

Lighting

My focus was on capturing early morning light on my subject, the snow capped Tetons. I wanted the early morning sun to accent the mountains in the reflection but the slight breeze took a bit away from my intent.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D5100 on a tripod and a remote release.

Inspiration

The pure and beautiful setting of the lake and the mountains gave me the motivation to set the alarm for 4:30am.

Editing

Very minimal post processing on this photo, I use Photoshop Elements 13.

In my camera bag

I have Nikon D5100, D7200, Nikor 18-55mm, 18-105mm; Sigma 50mm f1.4, Sigma 150-500mm f6.3, Tokina 11-20mm f2 lenses.

Feedback

To capture good landscapes photos I have learned one must sacrifice sleep and eats to be out during the golden hours, have your patience under control and be ready to sit, stand, lay down or whatever it takes to get the right light to capture you best photo.
