Location
This photo was taken in a wooded area in the city I was living in at the time in Pennsylvania.Time
This was captured in the evening, I believe it was 6:00pmLighting
With it being October and in the evening the sun wasn't bright in the sky, which made for great lighting. It was great for things to feel more moody.Equipment
As with all of my self sessions, I mounted my Nikon D7000 to my tripod. I didn't use the on camera flash. I usually mount my hot shoe flash and then play around with the settings and take test shots to decide whether or not I want to use it. I don't recall whether I fired the flash or not for this image. I am leaning towards no. To take my self portraits I use a wireless remote.Inspiration
This image was part of a horror/gothic type series that I shot for a local gallery. I wanted to shoot something that provoked thought...that made you think of the possible situations that may be a result of that photo. Was she trying to hang herself because she needed to escape from someone? Was it the only way she could feel free? Was someone forcing her to do it?Editing
I opened the image in Adobe Elements for my post-processing. I tweaked the exposure to brighten it up a little and I tweaked the colors a tad to make them pop a little more. There was also some skin correcting for blemishes. In my camera bag
Maybe because I am a woman and I have a tendency of over packing. I always carry all of the equipment I own in my bag. My Nikon D7000, my external flash, 50mm prime lens, 18-55mm lens, 55-200mm lens, and my wide angle lens. I also carry with me a set of macro filters that thread onto my lenses, my wireless remote, and a handful of memory cards.Feedback
Don't think about it. Things can be made complicated by over thinking. Grab your prop and your gear and go! Do whatever you feel..whatever comes to mind while you're at the location. Sometimes the images you didn't really plan out ahead of time can be your best!
