Behind The Lens

Location

Here on the back roads of the Black Hills of SD, you see so many amazing opportunities to capture wildlife. We spend much of our time out for a beautiful nature ride, and of course the camera comes with every time. At the right time and right place, you are blessed to capture shots that are to special to pass up.

Time

The late afternoon and the sun was in our favor, a great time to watch nature do what it does best, taking care of business. A slight wind, not a problem when lunch is near. Kestrels are usually not a fan of anyone getting close, fast and true, this one was hungry. Wasn't going to let us spoil his prize.

Lighting

The later part of the afternoon and the sun will be setting in a few hours, but yet has the right light to capture this Kestrel as he turns to check the surroundings as he attempts to eat his meal.

Equipment

Nikon P600 a smaller camera, but perfect for me.

Inspiration

Anything to do with wildlife. I am willing to capture that moment, to remind me how the circle of life is so priceless.

Editing

Shared with friends and family

In my camera bag

I do not carry equipment, except my camera.

Feedback

These raptures are very fast and do not like to pose. If you approach them slow and set up, if you have a tripod great and or zoom, better yet.. they will not let you get to close. I do not have a tripod, however I do have zoom. More than often I use zoom to capture them.
