Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at my Aunts house, I stayed there over christmas and for the first time ever we had a real Christmas tree, so we got new decorations to match.

Time

At around mid day after we had had a huge christmas lunch and everyone was feeling a bit lazy I sat near the christmas tree and watched the light glint off the decorations and though it looked stunning. So I gabbed my camera and for the first time ever shot in manual. It was a great experience trying to understand how to get it working and right.

Lighting

The lighting was a bit difficult as right behind the decoration was a window and a lot of light was coming in but inside was dark so trying to get the correct angle and settings so the background light didn't overshadow the object took a while.

Equipment

I shot with a Nikon D60, and an AF-S Micro Nikkor 105mm 1:2.8G ED lens

Inspiration

I was watching the sun glint of the decorations and though about the conversation I had earlier that day about wanting to learn how to shoot manual, so I thought what better time to try it out then now. I got my camera and played around with the settings until I got the hang of it.

Editing

No all my photos are as is, just what I can do with the camera settings

In my camera bag

3 lenses, one macro, one short zoom, one long zoom, and of course my body. On occasion I will carry a tripod but only if I know I'm going to need it.

Feedback

Look for the unique angle, a christmas decoration is a christmas decoration its your job to make it interesting and different. After all photography is a form of art, if you can find an angle, light arrangement, and subject you love that will come through in what you photo and add that extra quality to your image.
