Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at one of the small water bodies in Kannur, Kerala, Southern India

Time

It was morening - just after dawn. We'd gone to this spot to buy fresh fish from fishermen who were catching fish at this waterbody. It was a scenic locale and I had taken my camera along for the landscape. I was lucky to find a few egrets at the waterbody and while I was taking pictures of them flying in the area, one of them swooped to grab this fish.

Lighting

This was natural lighting - I did not have the choice of angles since the access to the waterbody was limited - I had to make do with what was available

Equipment

Canon 7D with Sigma 18-300mm lens handheld

Inspiration

It was not pre-planned - I was lucky to capture the moment - I was there primarily to shoot the landscape around the water body.

Editing

Just a bit of sharpening and lifting shadows in post processing.

In my camera bag

It depends on where I am going. If I am travelling on holiday visiting places: Canon 7D with Canon 17-55 f2.8, Sigma 18-300, Canon 50mm 1.8, ND filters for extended exposure If I am travelling with wildlife photography on the agenda: Canon 7D with Canon 17-55 f2.8, Sigma 150-500, Canon 50mm 1.8

Feedback

One needs to have patience to wait for the action to happen - as always, you need to have some luck as well.
