Behind The Lens
Location
This photo is my backyard just outside Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. I'm a self taught photographer and am taking various on-line courses become more comfortable with my camera.Time
I didn't have to walk far for this photo. It was mid afternoon, no tripod. It was just after a snow storm and I loved the contrast between the branches and the pure white snow.Lighting
There was no extra lighting involved. Just my camera - no flash. It was a no frills photo.Equipment
My Canon Rebel XTi. It was shot at 25mm with an 800 ISO. Nothing fancyInspiration
The rocking chair looked so lonely and like it was saying "when is spring". I loved the contrast and purity of the snow against the tree branches, pine needles, the rocking chair and bushes.Editing
I used photoshop raw to de-haze. I used topaz clarity and also topaz adjust to bring out the textures and contrasts. In my camera bag
I don't really carry a bag. I sling my camera around my shoulder and take photo's when I see something interesting. I recently purchased a Nikon CoolPix 900 that has become my favorite camera. I can zoom so close I feel like I can almost touch the subject, and on the opposite spectrum I can do macro, all with the same camera. It's now my go to camera. Sometimes I will also take my Canon with my 300mm lens, but not often. I'm a no frills kinda gal that loves photography and not much into carrying around a bunch of lens and bags.Feedback
Always see the opportunities. So often we see the same setting every day and don't really look at it anymore. There is newness in seeing. Take a walk around the neighborhood, look where you're walking, look up - look down - left - right, ask yourself "what's interesting about this house, this telephone pole, this tree, this grass". Maybe go in the opposite direction you normally do and you may see with a new and creative eye. Be open to possibilities.
